There have been times in recent years when people I know have approached me and asked, ‘Why not fly? Why take the train?’ 

They argue that I can surely afford it, and most of the time, the cost is almost the same, so I don’t save any money. I never had an articulated answer to that question. However, after my latest journey from Vizag to Delhi in early March, I think I have an answer.
The answer lies in this set of photographs. 

These journeys feed my imagination, allowing me to explore landscapes and meet people who intrigue me. When the train stands in the middle of nowhere or at some unknown station where no one boards or unboards, I wonder, what would life be like in this part of the world? I feel the urge to deboard, rent a place, and disappear to find out.
