Art Galleries

I visited an exhibition at Bikaner House on March 9, 2024, featuring an artist named Gulam Mohammed Sheikh. While I wouldn’t say I disliked the work, I didn’t feel connected to it.

There was a lot of conflict and division, especially among religions, which I find absurd because, in the bigger picture, all religions essentially convey the same message; only the method of communication differs. However, let’s discuss this topic further in another conversation. This is about the people who visit and stay.

For me, it was these two individuals who stood by me, which is why I’m writing about it now, late in the week. I wanted to test if they still stayed, and they did, hence this message.

The exhibition reminded me of my first visit to a place where I first saw art as art and made my first attempt to understand it. I was taken around a gallery, not as grand or beautiful as this one, but where art was displayed. This was exactly what was happening here.

The lady was explaining to the man what the art was, and he was listening carefully. It was also about how a piece of artwork can become a bridge between two people, starting a conversation.

I wonder why people from our culture and background don’t visit such places more often. It’s beautiful; even if you don’t understand it, it might start a conversation, or at the very least, trigger a thought or opinion
