Echoes of Journeys
March 22, 2024This photo
is a reminder of two movies coming together, “Namesake” and “Dil
Chahta Hai.” It’s about three friends, but it also symbolizes
individuality. I’m not sure if they know each other or not, but I can imagine
the conversations. I can picture myself being a part of it.
As I stand
at the edge of the cliff, I think of a dialogue from “Namesake,”
spoken by Irrfan Khan to his son about creating memories:
“Remember
that you and I made this journey together to a place where there was nowhere
left to go.”
Then, I
realize how life will never be the same. When we return to our homes and lives
away from the shore, the dialogue from “Dil Chahta Hai” resonates in
my head, narrated by Akshaye Khanna:
“Jaante
ho, hum teeno us jahaz ki tarah hai. Aaj nahi toh kal, hum apni manzilon ko
dhundte hue niklenge, aur ho sakta hai ki humare manzile alag ho.”
It’s
strange how movies shape our perception of the world sometimes, making life
poetic and giving us reasons. Some characters may be fictional, but they stay
with us as if they were real. We feel like we’ve known them, shared our lives
with them, and shared very private parts of our lives with them.
Certain
dialogues, songs, and scenes become our references for how we want to lead our
lives. They help us set goals and sometimes start walking towards them because
something inside us was moved. Something unsettled the dust and showed us what
we need to do. This was a moment that triggered my next step, the day I wanted
to be more than I was at that moment in time
